Frequently Asked Questions
What care home minibuses can you drive on a standard car licence?
Our roady-ready minibus, FlexiLite, can be driven on a standard car licence if the following criteria are met:
If you have passed your car driving test before 1st January 1997, you automatically have the D1 category on your licence. Therefore, you can drive a minibus carrying up to 16 passengers as long as it’s not being used for hire or reward. If you passed your car driving test on or after 1st January 1997, you can drive a minibus on a voluntary basis if you are over the age of 21 and have held a standard car licence for 2 years or more. Again, the minibus cannot be used for hire or reward. For the full list of conditions, we recommend you visit the government website here.
Do you need any permits to drive a minibus for care homes?
You should seek independent legal advice on wether your organisation requires and/or would qualify for a Section 19 or 22 permit in order to drive a minibus. Each case is considered on their own merits as every business has their own unique set of circumstances. We recommend you visit the government website for more information or download the following document from the Department of Transport here.
How many passengers can a care home minibus hold?
We have various carrying capacity options available at The Minibus Centre. Our lightweight FlexiLite can hold up to 16 passengers and space for up to 4 wheelchair users. If you are looking for smaller minibus options for your care home, we also offer 9 seater options with the Ford Tourneo Custom and the electric Toyota Proace Verso EV.
How much does a care home minibus cost?
Costs of a care home minibus vary depending on the size and seating layouts of the vehicle. When purchasing a minibus, our expert sales team will work with you to recommend a minibus that is not only cost-effective but also ensures all your transportation needs are met. If you are looking to lease a school minibus, our sales team will work with our finance partners to find you the most competitive package for your school.
